Kunst-Stoffe - Zentralstelle für wiederverwendbare Materialien e.V.
has been operating a redistribution center for residual and used materials,
which are suitable for creative reuse, for fifteen years. We provide these materials as a
sustainable resource for artists and designers, for learners and
educators, as well as for the resource-conscious general public at low cost. We
cooperate with companies from various industries to collect materials suitable for reuse
.
In addition to materials, we also offer our users open workshops and studios as
spaces for thinking, experimenting and producing. Together with educational institutions, we organize
workshops for various target groups and support schools as a competent practice partner
. In this way, Kunst-Stoffe supports the spread of repurposing strategies and sufficiency
in everyday life. Companies benefit from our approaches and working materials for
vocational training. Repair cafes and cargo bike construction complement our comprehensive
resource-conserving approach.
Since 2021, we have been running the center for climate-friendly
resource use in the House of Materialization (HdM). On behalf of the Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Transport and
Climate Protection and in collaboration with competent partners, we organize
exhibitions, courses and workshops there and present high-quality upcycling design by Berlin artists and designers in the newly created showroom
.
We pass on our diverse experience at international conferences, festivals and
meetings. With our initial advice, other direct material recycling
initiatives were founded in various cities. In 2010, Kunst-Stoffe published a handbook in an international
cooperation, in which the experiences of the first few years
are compiled. We published a further developed version in 2018. Prizes
and awards, among others: Lead project of the Local Agenda Berlin 21 (2009), awards from the German Council for Sustainable Development (2009 and 2010), Pankow Environmental Award 2011, Berlin Environmental Award 2013, Grand Prize of the Environmental Festival 2021.
