The place

Map from .Gut am Flughafen 1

On the site of the former Berlin-Tegel Airport, the Urban Tech Republic and the Schumacher Quartier are creating a neighborhood for the city of the future.

.GUT Am Flughafen 1 marks the beginning of this development. A temporary open space has been created in the former air freight halls. People and organizations are invited to build the city of the future together and experiment with new ideas and concepts.

Architecturally, .GUT Am Flughafen 1 was designed as a meeting place that offers makers the infrastructure to develop their ideas. In addition, the place is open to visitors and offers various opportunities for exchange between civil society and the members of our community.

In the renovation of the listed building, we are trying to be a role model and set new standards in sustainability.

Vision

We firmly believe: We humans are capable of shaping our future and solving the challenges of our century - be it global warming or the division of our society.

Many solutions are already available. And with our courage and creativity, we have the potential to develop the solutions that are still missing.

We want to be the place where this becomes a reality.

We believe that the key to successful change lies not only in building bridges between different disciplines and perspectives, but also in bringing systems into cycles. We create the space and infrastructure that enable cross-organizational collaboration and the emergence of innovations. This allows the makers in our community to focus on the essentials: Creating solutions.

In addition, change also requires a rethink and acceptance in society. We invite civil society and experts to participate and contribute to the development of solutions.

Funding

The project is financed by a development loan from Investitionsbank Berlin and GLS Bank. The investment in the listed former air freight hall is supported by a building cost subsidy from the owner of the property, Tegel Projekt GmbH.
For further development and expansion, we are aiming for financing via a green bond, which takes into account the non-financial impact of our project (economic development, contributions to the energy transition, conversion to a circular economy, involvement of civil society) in addition to a financial return.
