The Open Monument Day is the largest and best-known event in the field of monument preservation in Europe. For this purpose, thousands of monuments open their doors every year and let interested visitors look behind their scenes.
This year, the motto of the Open Monument Day in Berlin was "Full of Energy". The former Tegel TXL airport is a design icon of the 1970s and was listed as a historic monument in 2019 by the Berlin State Monument Office.
At the same time, the site of the former Tegel Airport was dedicated to the invention of the city of the future. On an area of 200ha, solutions in the fields of renewable energies, e-mobility, circular economy and sustainable building will be worked on in the next few years.
.GUT Am Flughafen 1 has been kicking off this development since May 2022. The former air cargo hall was redesigned together with GRAFT Architekten and Studio Aisslinger into a modern collaboration center with laboratories, workshops, test stands and event rooms. At the same time, great importance was attached to the preservation of historical monuments and the existing building was combined with modern requirements and design.
During the event days (Saturday & Sunday) we welcomed many visitors - also for free guided tours.
